See May 2010 photos
of the destruction of the sand dune in Deal, New Jersey just North of
Phillips Ave Jetty. The dune was flattened to about 2-3 feet high and
spread out across the beach towards the Ocean. The dune may have been
destroyed because it blocked the view of the Ocean. According to New
Jersey Department of Environmental Protection (DEP), the property owner
was given a permit to only remove wind blown sand from the property.
Also, there are photos of the remaining part of the dune and its
vegetation just north of the flattened area. More recently, sod was
planted and a chain link fence was erected.
